CS2 Skins
CS2 skins were introduced to CS:GO as part of the Arms Deal update back in August 2013. They were originally known as 'finishes' before Valve officially adopted the term 'Skins'. A skin is a cosmetic pattern applied to the surface of a weapon.

CS2 skins can be obtained in multiple ways from trading with other players, to receiving a free drop each week for Prime players.

Buy and sell skins directly on the Steam Community Market. Prices fluctuate based on demand, rarity, and float values.
Trading
Trade skins with other players using Steam's trading system. Popular for high-value items and specific skin hunting.

What is Skin Rarity?
Each CS2 skin has a Weapon Quality that signifies a skin's rarity and value. The most common skins are assigned the Consumer Grade whereas the rarest skins are assigned the Covert rarity.
